Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizens at Springs Studio
Springs Studio expects everyone to be good digital citizens. As a school, we hope that all students and staff at Springs Studio are committed to utilizing electronic media and tools in a manner that is ethical and respectful to themselves and others. Your teachers, friends, family, and community expect you to be an example for digital citizenship. We strive to be a school focused on being excellent role models and exemplars of digital citizenship! Please read over these eight principles for digital citizenship and pledge to practice these principles in everything you do.
Respect Yourself. I will show respect for myself through my actions. I will select online names that are appropriate. I will demonstrate respect for myself and others when posting information and images online, including personal information about my life, experiences, or relationships. I will not communicate using obscene language or images. I understand the great freedom our school offers; it comes with an elevated expectation of personal responsibility.
Protect Yourself. I will ensure that the information, images, and materials I post online will not put me at risk.
- I will not publish any personal details, contact information, or a schedule of my activities.
-
I will share my passwords and class links only with my parents and teachers.
-
I will report any attacks or inappropriate behavior directed at me immediately to
Mr. White, jason.white@d49.org or Mrs. Aubain, jennifer.aubain@d49.org.
Respect Others. I will show respect to others. I will not use electronic media to bully or harass other people. I will show respect for others through my choice of websites and not visit inappropriate or degrading sites to any persons or groups. I will not take or share pictures of others without their permission. I will not access other people’s private spaces or areas.
Protect Others. I will protect others by reporting abuse, not forwarding inappropriate materials or communications, and not visiting inappropriate or degrading sites to any person or group. I will protect others’ learning space by muting the sound on my laptop in the classroom and meetings unless directed to do otherwise by a teacher.
Respect Property. I understand that I am responsible for the device assigned to me and that I am expected to return the laptop, cord, and charger upon request in the same condition the items were issued.
Protect Property. I will not modify any SSAE computers in any way that will permanently alter the device physically or electronically. I will not delete any security configuration from my laptop. I will not loan my computer to others or borrow a computer from another student. I will only carry my laptop when the screen is closed and held with two hands or in a carrying bag.
Respect Ideas. I will request permission to use resources or content produced by others. I will suitably cite all use of the content not made by me, including websites, books, media, etc. I will research the accuracy of the information I find online.
Protect Ideas. If I purchase music or other media, I will refrain from distributing these in a manner that violates their licenses. I will act with integrity.
We believe all students can adhere to these principles of digital citizenship. Students will accept that failure to follow these principles will have consequences. Please make good choices when engaging online because what you post online never goes away and can impact your acceptance to college and affect your future employment. Should you have any questions about these principles, please contact your teacher or email Mrs. Pethtel at amanda.pethtel@d49.org.
Be Awesome, Be a Role Model, and Exemplify Digital Citizenship!
