Special Programs

D49 students have many opportunities in which to participate through the school district and at the district's expense.  Participation in these opportunities is a privilege, and student participation can be revoked at any time should the student continue to fail to meet the requirements set forth.  Students must meet the following criteria to qualify for any special program:

  • Personal Readiness- positive students conduct, discipline, attendance
  • Must not have any failing grades in the previous semester (& must continue to pass all classes)
  • Regular attendance is required at both SSAE and their program
  • Completion of D49 concurrent enrollment application & expectations form

Students who participate and successfully complete a full two-year program may earn mastery in both English & Math.

Programs students may participate in include:

CAREER START:  Career Start is a program where qualified high school students attend college classes on the Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) campus and are cohort with other high school students from other school districts.  Students attend this program 5 days a week (Monday through Friday from 9:00 -11:50 am); busing is available to and from D49 high school campuses to the PPSC Campus.  Students may choose from a variety of Applied Science program options.  Students earn both high school and college credits through participation in this program.

ISSA HAIRSTYLING PROGRAM:  The Hairstyling Program is a two-year program designed to train high school juniors and seniors to become hairstylists.  The program is designed to prepare the student to sit for the hairstylist licensure examination given by the State of Colorado. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will have earned the 1,200 contact hours required by the State of Colorado to become eligible to test for the hairstylist licensure examination. 

ISSA NAIL TECHNICIAN PROGRAM:  The Nail Technician Program is a one-year program designed to train high school seniors to become nail technicians. The program is designed to prepare the student to sit for the nail tech licensure examination given by the State of Colorado. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will have earned the 600 contact hours required by the State of Colorado to become eligible to test for the nail tech licensure examination. 

ISSA ESTHETICIAN PROGRAM:  The Esthetician Program is a one-year program designed to train high school seniors to become estheticians. The program is designed to prepare the student to sit for the esthetician licensure examination given by the State of Colorado. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will have earned the 600 contact hours required by the State of Colorado to become eligible to test for the esthetician licensure examination. 

YEAR 1: CONSTRUCTION:  I introduce students to Building Trades Safety and First Aid, Hand and Power Tool Safety, Building Materials, and Employability. Reading a ruler, calculating fractions, reading, and drawing blueprints. INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS - HBI PACT CORE Certification 

YEAR 2: CONSTRUCTION II:  Designed to take students to the next level, including Metal Roofing, Shingling, Tile, and Vinyl Siding, Introduction to Construction Code, and preparing for the inspection process. Calculate area, slope, materials list, cut list, and inventory. INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS - HBI PACT Carpentry Certification 

YEAR 1: CULINARY ARTS 1:  Learn and apply basic culinary skills commonly required in the restaurant and hospitality industry, such as foodservice and kitchen safety, basic food preparation, nutrition, commercial equipment and hand tools, and service skills. 

YEAR 2: CULINARY ARTS 2:  Learn and apply complex culinary skills commonly required in the restaurant and hospitality industry, such as the kitchen brigade, garden manager, appetizer preparation, and stocks, sauces, and soups. 

CULINARY ARTS 3:  Students earn the opportunity to learn leadership skills through mentoring and coaching first and second-year students. They coordinate menus and cater bi-monthly dinners served to the Board of Education and various district meetings. Advanced concepts in entrée preparation, pastries and desserts, accompaniments, and plating are explored.

AEROLAB:  Falcon AeroLab is a supplemental, project-based STEM/Aerospace program offering unique opportunities for students to experience the excitement of aerospace through hands-on labs and activities.  AeroLab students will build personal portfolios of licenses, certifications, and credentials. These achievements make them attractive to colleges and employers in the highly desired STEM/Aerospace industries.  Students can earn certification in SolidWorks, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Part 107 Drone License, and work towards achieving Private Pilot License Certificates.
